Adams was raised in Italy and her father was with the U.S. military and she was raised in Castle Rock Colorado as one of seven children. The mid-1990s saw her begin performing professionally and dancing with the Boulder Dinner Theatre and the Country Dinner Playhouse in Colorado. She then moved to Minnesota and was cast in Drop Dead Gorgeous, a documentary mock film that focused on beauty contests. After her screen debut that was successful with the role of an unfriendly, but obnoxious contestant, Janet moved into Los Angeles where she began an acting career professionally. Leigh was found by actress Norma Shearer and was offered a contract to work for MGM during the 1940s. Her role as Norma was featured in several popular films over time, like Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho from 1960 and Living It Up, a Martin and Lewis film which was released in 1954.
